Furthermore, the establishment of private institutions for ensuring higher educational services in Malaysia also demanded the drastic reforms in higher education sector in the country (Abdul, Reza Amizi, 2016). The restructuring of higher education sector in Malaysia was realized in the mid part of 1990s and was also modified further in order to cope with the Asian financial crisis in 1998 through advertisement of benefits which could be derived in the form of foreign exchange. The complex competitive landscape in the Asian continent increased gradually with the increasing number of institutes for provision of higher education to international students (Abdollah, Abdullah Voon, 2016). The aggregation of several institutes for provision of higher education also raises concerns for research in order to review the factors responsible for attracting students to the Malaysian private educational institutes. The measurement of variables is ensured through a comprehensive representation of data collection outcomes in the form of percentages and frequencies, thereby easing the process of interpretation (Wee et al., 2014). Reliability of the method can be ensured through the collection of questionnaire responses directly in first hand from the respondents. The validity of the data can be concluded through the present association of respondents with the educational institutes in Malaysia. The Data analysis method used for the research is the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) software. The software is capable of drawing generalizations of research findings in data collection stage. The apprehension of consumer behavior traits in students through the research variables can be observed descriptively with the help of outcomes of the data analysis process which is in the form of frequency and percentages. Research ethics Every research activity is characterized with the presence of ethical standards referring to the permission for research activity, management of resources and the process of data collection. The Chac Mool Statues of Mexico A Chac Mool is a very specific type of Mesoamerican statue associated with ancient cultures such as the Aztecs and Maya. The statues, made of different types of stone, depict a reclined man holding a tray or bowl on his belly or chest. Much is unknown about the origin, significance, and purpose of the Chac Mool statues, but ongoing studies have proven a strong link between them and Tlaloc, Mesoamerican god of rain and thunder. Appearance of the Chac Mool Statues The Chac Mool statues are easy to identify. They depict a reclining man with his head turned ninety degrees in one direction. His legs are generally drawn up and bent at the knees. He is almost always holding a tray, bowl, altar, or other recipient of some kind. They often are reclined on rectangular bases: when they are, the bases usually contain fine stone inscriptions. Iconography related to water, the ocean and/or Tlaloc, the rain god can often be found on the bottom of the statues. They were carved from many different sorts of stone available to Mesoamerican masons. In general, they are roughly human-sized, but examples have been found which are larger or smaller. There are differences between Chac Mool statues as well: for example, the ones from Tula and Chichà ©n Itz appear as young warriors in battle gear whereas one from Michoacn is an old man, nearly naked. The Name Chac Mool Although they were obviously important to the ancient cultures that created them, for years these statues were ignored and left to weather the elements at ruined cities. The first serious study of them took place in 1832. Since then, they have been viewed as cultural treasures and studies on them have increased. They got their name from the French archeologist Augustus LePlongeon in 1875: he dug one up in Chichà ©n Itz and mistakenly identified it as a depiction of an ancient Maya ruler whose name was ââ¬Å"Thunderous Paw,â⬠or Chaacmol. Although the statues have been proven to have no relation to Thunderous Paw, the name, slightly changed, has stuck. Dispersion of the Chac Mool Statues Chac Mool statues have been found at several important archaeological sites but are curiously missing from others. Several have been found at the sites of Tula and Chichà ©n Itza and several more have been located in different excavations in and around Mexico City. Other statues have been found at smaller sites including Cempoala and at the Maya site of Quirigu in present-day Guatemala. Some major archaeological sites have yet to yield a Chac Mool, including Teotihuacn and Xochicalco. It is also interesting that no representation of the Chac Mool appears in any of the surviving Mesoamerican Codices. Purpose of the Chac Mools The statues - some of which are quite elaborate - obviously had an important religious and ceremonial uses for the different cultures that created them. The statues had a utilitarian purpose and were not, in themselves, worshiped: this is known because of their relative positions within the temples. When located in temples, the Chac Mool is nearly always positioned between the spaces associated with the priests and that associated with the people. It is never found in the back, where something revered as a deity would be expected to rest. The purpose of the Chac Mools was generally as a place for sacrificial offerings for the gods. These offering could consist of anything from foodstuffs like tamales or tortillas to colorful feathers, tobacco or flowers. The Chac Mool altars also served for human sacrifices: some had cuauhxicallis, or special recipients for the blood of sacrificial victims, while others had special tà ©hcatl altars where humans were ritualistically sacrificed. The Chac Mools and Tlaloc Most of the Chac Mool statues have an obvious link to Tlaloc, the Mesoamerican rain god and an important deity of the Aztec pantheon. On the base of some of the statues can be seen carvings of fish, seashells and other marine life. On the base of the Pino Suarez and Carranza Chac Mool (named after a Mexico City intersection where it was dug up during road work) is the face of Tlaloc himself surrounded by aquatic life. A most fortunate discovery was that of a Chac Mool at the Templo Mayor excavation in Mexico City in the early 1980s. This Chac Mool still had much of its original paint on it: these colors only served to further match the Chac Mools to Tlaloc. One example: Tlaloc was depicted in the Codex Laud with red feet and blue sandals: the Templo Mayor Chac Mool also has red feet with blue sandals. Enduring Mystery of the Chac Mools Although much more is known now about the Chac Mools and their purpose, some mysteries remain. Chief among these mysteries is the origin of the Chac Mools: they are found at Postclassic Maya sites such as Chichà ©n Itz and Aztec sites near Mexico City, but it is impossible to tell where and when they originated. The reclining figures likely do not represent Tlaloc himself, who is usually depicted as being more gruesome: they could be warriors who carry the offerings to the gods they were intended for. (2006 p73) As a manager of a setting oneââ¬â¢s personal experience would tell that there are many different types of ââ¬Ëchangeââ¬â¢ that can arise in a private day nursery, one example has recently occurred where two qualified members of the team, who both worked together in the baby room, terminated their contract of employment within weeks of each other. This became a problem as it only gave the company four weeks to: advertise the position, interview candidates and compare them to the person specification required for the job, then upon occupying the positions the new recruits needed to learn the everyday practices and bond with the children and of course the parents, who maybe understandably concerned with the issue. Therefore the process of change has to be organised to make the transition a smooth one. However as people we exist within contradiction. On the one hand, we need stability and security to perform well but on the other hand we can become stagnant, complacent and uncreative when we shy away from change or even when we find we simply cannot cope with it. It seems that we are more interested in the process of change and what the implications of change actually are. As there is no way of predicting when change will happen, as a manager it is better to be equipped to deal with it when it does. Any manager will tell you that in the nursery world staff turnover can be high. Therefore being better equipped will also create an environment where change is a natural and exciting organic process. (Cole 2006 p.111) Consequently a manager needs to begin looking at the limitations they unconsciously place upon themselves. The greater our own understanding of how we are affected by change and how we react to it, the better prepared we will be to deal with it whether that change is by our own choice or someone elses. (Mabey and Mayon-White, 1993 p8) Before looking at change management, it is important to mention that some people thrive on change. They can not stay in one job, in one relationship or in one country for very long. They need to shake up their own status quo. They sometimes create change just for the sake of it (Cannon. 1994 p 246) This on the other hand can cause problems to other people within the setting; people are pattern-making mechanisms. In general, our systems are more comfortable with pattern and routine than with change. Once a pattern is established, the left side of our brains (the logical, analytical, pattern-making sphere) will quite happily keep marching along that path. (Veccio1988 p 34) Any type of change that occurs asks us to change a point of view and adopt a way of seeing the world that is at odds with the way we are used to seeing it, thus causing us to tap into our insecurities. We can develop a feeling of unsure-ness, a sense of not quite knowing what the is ââ¬Ërightââ¬â¢ thing to do. There is no longer a predictable, reliable pattern to follow, and where children are concerned, parents have to deal with these insecurities and worries immediately, simply being a voice for their children. One of the challenges with ââ¬ËChange Managementââ¬â¢ is to maintain the current business operations while the changes are being implemented. A framework needs to be created and maintained within a positive environment, this will help people accept the changes leaving them prepared and committed to assist with implementing them. Employees need to feel empowered rather than feeling they are being manipulated or coerced, and focus needs to be on the long-term goals rather than on a quick-fix to the situation.

Decolonization – Congo
Why was process of decolonization peaceful in some countries and violent in others? (Before Independence) Brief historical background of colonization? (Historical Context) * What ignited calls for independence from colonial rule in __________ (your country)? A: Elections were held in rural areas(small cities) for reform and democratization of local government. 1958 was a year of vigorous political discussion at issues of society in Belgian Congo. The whole turning point of their advocacy for independence was during January 4-6 in 1959. In January 4, a riot broke out in Leopoldville due to the fact that an Abako meeting had been banned.This abrupt disorder for two days as European shops were broken and burned with over 40 people killed. The administration had political concession meaning that Belgium handed over independence to Congo. On January 13, the administration released a statement that they would slowly change into independence. The nationalist urged the colonial government to have an early date for independence. From this statement, issues about the independence of Congo sprang quickly. Political parties made huge promises that were illogical in order to gain favor of the people.Some parties requested for a faster date while others thought of holding the situation slowly. The government slowly began to lose control of rural areas. The government feared of catastrophe, decided to decolonize as quick as possible. The Congolese leaders aimed for a five-year transition to independence but the Belgians enforced that the date of independence would be of 30 June 1960. According to The Making of Modern Africa, The first national elections held in May was looked as a disaster. After the end of World War 2, the Congo was able to participate in political issues. What methods did the ââ¬Å"nationalistsâ⬠use to achieve independence? To what extent were these methods effective? How did the colonial nation respond to the effort of the nationalists? A: Patrice L umumba launched THE FIRST NATIONWIDE POLITICAL PARTY, the Congo National Movement in 1958. They caused outrages in order to erupt instability to the country. Huge riots were caused by the hunger for independence by the people of Congo. The Belgian authorities prohibited a political/cultural party named ââ¬ËABAKOââ¬â¢ which was slowly gaining power in the lower part of Congo.This led to riots for a span of three days and the Belgian government announced that they would put more Congolese into the government (for moderate nationalists) at a small scale in hopes of satisfying the demands. (Made a promise of eventual independence to extreme nationalists). But suddenly there was a surge of political activity. The nationalistââ¬â¢s demand soon grew as fifty political parties were registered competing and Belgian Congo was beyond control of the Belgian administration. * When did _________ (your country) achieve independence? Who ended up in power? Transition) A: The Republic of Co ngo achieved independence on June 30, 1960. From January 18-27, 1960, an event known as the ââ¬ËThe Roundtable Conferenceââ¬â¢ was held in Brussels. Different Congolese parties attended the meeting to discuss the transition into independence. There were two pivotal leaders, Joseph Kasa-Vubu as President and Patrice Lumumba as Prime Minister. To what extent were problems facing newly independent countries a legacy of colonial rule? * What was the condition of the country upon independence? (Identify problems) A: Coming from colonial rule, the Congolese had minimal knowledge to manage a huge country.Tribal leaders had more power than the government, which led them to have an unstable state. After the departure of the Belgium administration, there were barely any bureaucrats left in the country. The first Congolese graduate ever was only in 1956. How could a child start working if he/she hasnââ¬â¢t had any education. This was the kind of situation in between Belgium and Congo. What ways did the Cold War complicate the process ofà decolonization and/or post-independence? * Did ideology or the US/USSR conflict play a role in the process to achieve independence OR create problems for countries after they achieved independence? (If so, how significant? A: The Congo Crisis was a period of disorder from 1960 ââ¬â 1966. The Katanga province threatened to leave Congo because the Belgians were interested in business and there were over 6000 Belgian tro ops with most of the European population under the leadership of Moise Tshombe. The province was declared as the State of Katanga in July 11 1960. Patrice Lumumba went to Soviet Union for troops to enforce the Katanga province. Feeling afraid, President Kasa-Vubu requested help from the United States that turns this into a proxy war as well. The US saw this attempt to spread their ideology in sub-Saharan Africa.The U. Impact of the British Victory in the Indian French War Essay
A war transpired between Britain and France, which lasted from the year 1756 to the year 1763. This war, which was termed as the French and Indian War, was fought over colonial possessions in the North American Continent. It was fought between the American colonists and the British on one side and the French and the American Indians on the other. The incident that initiated this war was the deployment of troops under Washington by the Virginian Governor, to dispute the Ohio valley French expansion (French and Indian War , 2005). This war was part of the larger struggle to attain colonial supremacy and in this struggle between the European colonizers, Britain obtained control of India and several French colonies. In this process Britain obtained Florida from Spain instead of Cuba. This period of strife ended with the signing of the Treaty of Paris in 1763, by Britain, France and Spain. Britain was the major beneficiary and obtained control over Canada, Florida and a number of Caribbean islands (Seven Yearsââ¬â¢ War , 2005). Initially the war efforts in America were not accorded much significance by the rulers in Britain. However, in 1757, William Pitt or Pitt the Elder, the then secretary of state and virtual prime minister, realized the fact that this skirmish had the capacity to obtain global domination for the British. Accordingly, Britain borrowed heavily and adopted a number of stratagems like paying Prussia to fight on its behalf in Europe and reimbursing the American colonists. In July 1758, the British emerged victorious at Louisbourg, in the month of August in the same year, they captured Fort Frontenac. In September 1759, a great victory was achieved against the French on the Plains of Abraham. The French were soundly and completely routed in Canada with the capture of Montreal by the British in September 1760. Due to the Paris Peace Treaty Britain obtained Canada and Florida and the American colonies became much stronger after this war, due to the removal of their European colonial rivals (SEVEN YEARSââ¬â¢ WAR , 1991). Vast and far reaching changes were wrought by the victory in this war. Some of these were that Britainââ¬â¢s presence in the New World became significantly larger. However, Britain incurred a very heavy monetary debt in achieving this victory. The leaders in England developed deep resentment towards the colonists, because the latter had not provided adequate financial and military help to the former. Consequently, Britain decided to enhance their control over the American colonies and to drastically reduce the extant decentralization. This resulted in severe dissatisfaction on the part of the American colonists towards the British. A major benefit that accrued from this war was that the colonists realized that their real enemy was Britain and not each other. They also realized that if they became one, then they were a truly redoubtable foe to contend with. This confidence coupled with the unjust and repressive policies of the British resulted in the American Revolution. In this manner a war that was fought between Britain and France to curb the latterââ¬â¢s expansionist ambitions led to the obtention of independence of the American Colonies from the British (Mooy, 2003). Why Bother With Politics Free Online Research Papers The world of politics is one with endless boundaries. Politics cover virtually every aspect of life and the legal infrastructure that we live today. It is a way for people to make changes, and for changes to be made for the betterment of the people. People learn of politics through many different sources, though perhaps the leading source is the media. The media publicizes important and current governmental issues by means of newspaper, internet, and magazines. Television and television news is a major contributor to the publicizing of government actions to the masses. On any given day at any given time, there are various news channels that focus specifically on the current political climate in the US and elsewhere. Political information can also be discussed in various interest groups. In these groups people can take their ideas and causes to the streets and persuade others to go along with their views on important issues. One of many reasons American politics is so special is because everyone is entitled to their own opinion on our government and can express it anyway they please. Also, being part of any politically related group gives people the opportunity to learn about issues that they may not have previously known. The opportunity to be educated on endless political topics and issues is one of the advantages of people communicating about related topics. Schooling is also a primary source of information to be distributed about politics and its impact on us today. People can only help themselves by getting informed about our government and what is going on with laws, elections, and politicians currently in office. The beauty of democracy is that we the people make the decisions and we must take full advantage of that. I believe the most influential sources of politics is the media and, specifically, the politically based television shows such as MSNBC,CNN,and Fox News. All of these channels have different opinions, such as Foxââ¬â¢s Republican favored views, and MSNBCââ¬â¢s less partisan broadcasting. I find these sources of media to be extremely influential to both myself and the people of our country, as intelligent and informed individuals are regularly interviewed about various sorts of political topics and their opinions surrounding them. They give specific answers on why they like certain issues, why they dislike certain issues, and even what politicians they feel strongly about and what politicians they disagree with. If one has no background information on any form of politics it only make sense to base their views on what these other, informed ââ¬Å"expertsâ⬠feel. I also believe our parents have a strong impact on the way youth feel towards politics. It seems as if the philosophy of the ââ¬Å"apple doesnââ¬â¢t fall far from the treeâ⬠plays a role in the way we feel about government as well. For example, if at the dinner table, a parent adamantly discusses his favoritism of the Independent party there is a good chance u may agree because of the simple fact that your Father and guardian feels the same way. I, personally, believe that the Internet has had the biggest impact on my political views, because I have been fortunate enough to find non-partisan websites providing a great deal of information about various political topics. This provides me with the choice of figuring out what party and specific issues I find to my liking. These websites have persuaded me to the point where I comfortably define myself as a member of the Independent party because I feel as though the media and big-shot parties donââ¬â¢t have a right to define who we are in simply two different groups. We, as Americans, all have a choice and I believe there are far too many choices to be allow ourselves to be sucked into one of two dominate decision making parties, and we should instead co-exist with them and vote how we truly feel instead of what a party feels. In my opinion, the Independent voter takes the full advantage of being a free citizen and voting according to conscience, the way it should be. Overall, politics is something we should all learn more and more about because it is everything and it is everywhere and the more you know the better the decision you make. Many find this difficult to answer as there are numerous perspectives, some may base their definition on culture, whereas others may base it on science. However, there are a few definitions from various different aspects. According to Kretchmer (1988), obesity is defined as à ¿Ã ½a complex biological situation and a prime example of a problem where there is a constant interaction of genetics and environment.à ¿Ã ½ Based on Kretchmerà ¿Ã ½s definition, he believes that it is pointless to argue on whether nature or nurture has a greater influence on the origination of obesity. On the other hand, from a nutritional and scientific point of view, a method known as the body mass index weight in kilograms divided by height in met ers squared, defines whether an individual falls within the normal or obese range (Kretchmer, 1988). Based on the results from the 2009à ¿Ã ½2010 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), an approximate of 16.9% of adolescents and children in the United States between the ages of 2-19 are obese (National Center for Health Statistics, 2012). The main question is how exactly do these young individuals end up being overweight and obese? Should they be fully responsible for their own physical well-being, or are there other factors that contribute to this epidemic. This essay will discuss on how parents become the main source of reason behind the childhood obesity outbreak, mainly focusing on their lifestyles which thus affects their children, as well as their beliefs, expectations, modeling behaviour and parenting styles. However, childhood obesity can also be caused by various other factors, ranging from dietary to sedentary lifestyles, which will also be discussed in this essay Majority of the time, a childà ¿Ã ½s parents are his/her primary caregiver, therefore t hey spend hours with their mother and father. This thus allows parents to be the number one most influential people in a childà ¿Ã ½s life, their presence could result in either promoting or impeding the childà ¿Ã ½s healthy lifestyle.Furthermore, parents equip their children with their food environment, model eating habits and control their childrenà ¿Ã ½s food intake. According to Birch (1979), the childà ¿Ã ½s familiarity with food contributes to 25 to 50% of the changes in their dietary preferences. The familiarity with food was tested by Birch and Marlin (1982), whereby they introduced unusual fruits and cheeses to various children and found that there was a significant relationship between the amount of exposure and preference. This suggests that children would rather prefer foods that they are introduced to at home. McCarthy (1935) also discovered that children showed a distaste for foods that their parents have no liking for. This studies are also interrelated with the parents beliefs, as it contributes greatly in their childrenà ¿Ã ½s eating habits. For example, most parents have the belief that children disfavour skim milk, and that the temperature of the milk given would greatly affect consumption. However, studies done by Herbert-Jackson et al. (1977) proven otherwise, when children were given different milks with differing fat densi ty at varying temperatures, they noted no differences in the consumption of the milk. Foman (1974), suggests that because some parents find skim milk distasteful, they presume that their children find skim milk distasteful too. Likewise with salt and sugar that are added to baby foods, parents perceive that their taste preferences would be similar with their offspringsà ¿Ã ½. These studies thus shows that parents play a very important role in their childrenà ¿Ã ½s food environment. Although most children do not have a specific taste preference, due to their parents influence they consume much more salt, sugar and fats than what is nutritionally needed as they are affected by their parentsà ¿Ã ½ taste preferences, this could thus result in an obese child. Furthermore, the modeling of parents may act as an intermediary on how children develop their eating habits and activity levels. Harper and Sanders (1975) compared the impacts of persuading and modeling on children ranging between the ages of one to four. They discovered that children reproduced the adult modelà ¿Ã ½s eating behaviour in 80% of the situations. However, when persuaded to eat, children would only reciprocate 48% of the time. Though prompts to eat does affectthe intake of foods, an adult model is even more a influentialstimulant. Therefore, this study shows that an adult model had a great impact on children. In this study, unidentified adult models were introduced to the children, yet the response of modeling behaviour was still high. According to Sleddens et al. (2011), it was found that variousstudies showed a significant relationship with general parenting. Parents who raise their children in a authoritative manner resulted in their children having high levels of physical activities, more healthy eating habits, and have lower BMI scores in contrast with other children who were raised in a different parenting style. According to Maccoby and Martin (1983), an authoritative parenting style is defined as a family setting whereby emotional support and warmth is conveyed, along with a comprehensible and clear-cut communication between the parents and the children. For that reason, parenting style plays a very important role on how it influences the health of the children. Although there are many studies relating parenting with childhood obesity, it is however not the only factor that contributes to the obesity of children. According to Kutchman et al. (2009), they theorised that an imbalance in the childà ¿Ã ½s energy intake and energy output affects the weight of the child. Due to the sedentary lifestyles of young individuals in this era, they are more prone to be inactive despite consuming the same amount of foods as children did in the past. This is due to the increased usage of computer use (e.g. surfing the internet, social media websites à ¿Ã ½ facebook, twitter), and increased television viewing time. There was a positive correlation found between obesity and global television viewing time (Robinson, 2001). A study done by Matheson et al. (2004), showed that children who watch television while eating resulted in the consumption of more calories in contrast with children who did not watch television while eating. According to Proctor et al. (2003), children who watched less than an hour and forty-five minutes of television per day had significantly lower levels of BMIs as compared to those children who watched television three hours or more. They also found that those children who watched large amounts of television during their early years had the most increase in body fat over an extended period of time (Proctor et al., 2003). This study thus demonstrates that the childà ¿Ã ½s level of physical activity is greatly affected by the level of computer usage and television viewing. Although there are two sides to how a childà ¿Ã ½s obesity is affected, it all still points towards the direction on how the parents handle their children. As children are still not old enough to make such sensible decisions, parents thus play the larger role in disciplining and modeling healthy behaviours for their children (Bries Gartin, 2006). In conclusion, I believe that parents are to blame for their childrenà ¿Ã ½s obesity, however to punish them would not be as appropriate, but to educate them on leading a more active and healthy lifestyle would be more beneficial for both the parents and the children. Further directions includes research that should be conducted on the investigation of intervention studies that focus on the prevention and treatment of childhood obesity through general parenting (Gerards, 2011). Another area to consider would be to focus on creating awareness on childhood obesity, and how this epidemic has been increasing over the years. Parents along with schools should work together in battling this ever growing problem. Ultimately, they should encourage healthy lifestyle changes for not only the children, but with the parents as well because à ¿Ã ½weight-loss among children and their parents have greater long-term success rates than programs focusing solely on child weight reductionà ¿Ã ½ (La rimore et al., 2005).
